error with script manager

Posted 06 July 2010 - 12:18 PM

I added a progress bar on my page as shown in the code. But this page started giving me this error:Line: 1429
Error: Sys.ArgumentTypeException: Object of type 'Object' cannot be converted to type 'Array'.
Parameter name: array

This error is associated with script manager. Which ever page I put the script manager, it starts giving me the same error. Please help me to remove this error.

<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" Runat="Server">
    <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">    </asp:ScriptManager>

.....

.....

 <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
                <ContentTemplate>
                     <asp:UpdateProgress runat="server" ID="UpdateProgress1" DynamicLayout="false" AssociatedUpdatePanelID="UpdatePanel1">
                            <ProgressTemplate>
                                <img id="Img1" runat="Server" src="~/images/cartoon.gif" height="50"  alt=""/>
                            </ProgressTemplate>
                        </asp:UpdateProgress>
                        <asp:ImageButton ID="btn_save_preferences" runat="server" Text="Save Preferences" ImageUrl="images/btn_original_savepreferences.png" onclick="save_preferences"  />
                </ContentTemplate>
                </asp:UpdatePanel>

...

...

</asp:Content>

Thanks.

if this is using a master page, then you should be putting the ScriptManager on the master page, and then using the ScriptManagerProxy on the content pages.

I tried your suggestion; used a Script manager on master page and Scriot ManagerProxy on usersettings page which has the update panel. But it didn't help. I still get this error. the same master is used for many other pages, so now I get this error for any page I load.
code on master page:
<body>
    <form id="form1" runat="server">
    <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">
    </asp:ScriptManager>

    <div id="header">
        <div class="headerTopRight">
            <img style="display: none;" class="corner" alt="png" src="images/header_left_upper.png"/>
        </div>
        <div class="imagesContainer">
            <div class="logoContainer">
                <img alt="png" src="images/csi_logo.png"/>
            </div>
            <div class="adnContainer">
                <img alt="png" src="images/header.png"/>
            </div>
        </div>
        <div class="headerBottomRight">
            <img style="display: none;" class="corner" alt="" src="images/header_low_left.png"/>
        </div>
    </div>
    <div id="header_bar">
        <a href="default.aspx">Case List</a> <a href="changePassword.aspx">User Settings</a> <asp:Literal ID="usernameShow" runat="server" />
    </div>
    <div id="content">
        <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server">

        </asp:ContentPlaceHolder>
    </div>
    </form>

</body>

code on user settings page:
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" Runat="Server">
<%--    <asp:ToolkitScriptManager ID="ToolkitScriptManager1" runat="server">
    </asp:ToolkitScriptManager>--%>
    <asp:ScriptManagerProxy ID="ScriptManagerProxy1" runat="server">
    </asp:ScriptManagerProxy>

.....
......
......
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
                <ContentTemplate>
                     <asp:UpdateProgress runat="server" ID="UpdateProgress1" DynamicLayout="false" AssociatedUpdatePanelID="UpdatePanel1">
                            <ProgressTemplate>
                                <img id="Img1" runat="Server" src="~/images/cartoon.gif" height="50"  alt=""/>
                            </ProgressTemplate>
                        </asp:UpdateProgress>
                        <asp:ImageButton ID="btn_save_preferences" runat="server" Text="Save Preferences" ImageUrl="images/btn_original_savepreferences.png" onclick="save_preferences"  />
                </ContentTemplate>
                </asp:UpdatePanel>

do you receive this error message from the standard ASP.Net error page, or do you get an exception when running it in code? Can you post the stack trace?
