How to run Sun's Java on Ubuntu

Posted 08 July 2010 - 01:38 PM

I am not familiar at all with Linux but want to use a linux Ubuntu box for some java coding. I do not, however, want to use the open source version of the jdk that comes with Ubuntu.

How do I: (1.) Install the jdk/jre on Ubuntu
(2.) Configure the system so that the authentic Sun java is default.

I have seen this done with a few commands on the command line before but can't seem to find the link again.

Thanks for your help,
Irongleet
