Although my post was partly in good fun (as you will soon learn here in the caffeine lounge), I do have to point out that people will soon tire of reading philosophical meanderings in a programming help forum. They have their place in a thread created specifically for that kind of thing; not in a thread about "ask a ninja" or "c++ help".

Secondly, I do humble myself to think that I do represent the community to some extent, as I am a moderator (with nearly a thousand posts which in turn pales in comparison to several team members). I did not say you could not speak, I was merely creating satire to illustrate your penchant for verbosity.

Finally, your non sequitar of "picking on me" is a fallacious attempt at reversing the situation.

Sorry for my somewhat hostile attitude; I was just poking fun :).
I just think it will get old reading essays constantly; most people won't take the time to read what you write. It's fun every now and then, but it is totally unnecessary to write with intense verbosity merely to attempt to convey intelligence. Most people here speak in a colloquial manner regardless of intelligence.

Sorry again and have a great day,
Videege

sequitur
My charming friend.

Though that could have been a typo, on some foreign key-layout.
No matter, for your gripe regards verbosity & intelligence.
You somehow got I that I sit, stressing my mind to employ every last jot of my cranial contents I am able to bend to my will, to string together the words I use, in an effort to elevate myself in the opinion of those on here?
A post being for one purpose primarily you detect that this why my posts read so?

It is none of your business but I happen to experience an inscrutable joy from language.
I write the way I write because I want to.
I feel there is a truth that comes into being singularily within the very expression.
You seem to have a sensibility for the truth going by your forum paraphenalia.
I will never be shy of using the right encapsulating concept in word form to express myself; it erodes ambivalence, & lends colour.

To satarise my use of language in what was itself a satirical use of a 'formal mode' is arguably cretinous.

I have no issues with anyone's level of intelligence on here. You are waging a fallacious campaign with myself personally on that front.

You've got a sense of pretty much how I will post by now:
Responsibly & with due deference for the aims of the forum & the thread, & with a sincere aim to contribute.

You have no need to read my posts in their entirety & even if you were contractually obliged to do so I am certain a talented mod like yourself has learn to read at a pace most ordinary mortals would be awed by.

I stand by the apt closing statement; a logical consequence of your explicit reaction to my neutral posts.

Glad to have seen your true colours early on.
Perhaps its true what they say that thousands of posts do suffice to innoculate against being a legend in one's own mind & a cretin to boot. :)

That last post by yourself was much better.

Who knows there may still be a chance that one day I will actually like you...?

Keep up the good work.

The point, xof, is that you write essays in the programming forums. Write however you want in the Lounge; but when you ramble on about imparting wisdom and whatnot in a topic concerning c++, it is somewhat ridiculous. You said it yourself:

Can anyone see how to rephrase that in a more readily-digestible manner?

Replies such as these dilute the quality of the topic; people need to be able to find what they need quickly and not have to shuffle through a myriad of irrelevant information. Your replies are interesting; however, they belong more in the lounge or in a developer's blog (I for one would be interested in reading one published by you, I encourage you to create one) than in the C++ forum.

If you laid it out on a keyboard it would stretch all the way from a to z.

Very good! I like that one, must use it myself sometime...with quote references of course...lol

(p.s. to whom it may concern the cock comment was intended as an allusion to the cock swinging contest in progress in case that was missed :P)

Why not make yourself plain in the first place & save us all the posturing?

Your error was that you guys evidently have a tacit understanding regarding your 'particular' form of language you use with each other, (fairly typical of what language converges on in forums in fact - nothing new to me & neither was you being driven to your excessive reactionary posting to my style of post) all your own, & you mistook me for a greenhorn.

Finally the mod sets out to make a good point & to make himself understood.
Though I think that asking for a thread to develop into some kind of pseudo-readable-article on the particular problem is over-ambitious. This is why there is a job, & always will be for an editor. People thinking through a problem & people attempting to communicate & already understood issue in the most effective manner sound very different.

As to me writing a single 'essay' on here: get fucking real.

A couple of paragraphs does not make an essay; are you being condescending to the readers of this forum who I am certain can make up their own mind as to what & how much they read? Never mind undermining essaying as a form.
As for verbose: you ever try Edgar Allan Poe?
Don't.
You can't post images of simulated torture with clever-dick slogans in dominating sans-serif fonts to lash out at him.

As for the blog suggestion: thanks!

But no thanks.

Things would have to change drastically from the present situation for me to make any of my writing available to you :) I will never allow any of the writing you could get your hands on to be you to associated with this account :D

Not that I delude myself that this is in any way significant, the challenge today being able to wisely select from the plethora of great writing on any topic which is so easily to hand.

Alrighty. As for verbosity, I think Hitler tops Poe by a long shot :D. 'Course, Hitler just kind of rambles on whereas Poe is quite good.

Just as a side note, I think you might be taking this all a little too personally. We like to mess around with people here in the lounge, especially new members ;).

I just wanted to point a few things out

1. the keyboard from a to z joke is the funniest thing i've heard all week
2. for once i wasn't the person to offend a new member, we should record this date as a milestone in our history books.
