I kinda have to agree with Jack. If I'm needing to expound on a subject, it's because someone on here asked about it.

That and I'm usually too busy actually coding to just write about it. I never was a writer though, myself, so that more or less stands to reason.

I had a web site for a while, but it basically came down to this: I'm the sort of person who doesn't document anything. I don't write things down, and I don't keep a journal. I don't take pictures at events, because I'm really busy doing whatever is going on. So with the website/blog, I never had anything new because at the time that I was doing something interesting, I wasn't thinking about documenting.

Tl;dr: I suck at blogging

I love my blog, as with some here a lot of what I write about on my blog is based on things I find here (as are a ton of the tutorials I write). When I do blog about it I generally link back to the topic here that sparked the blog entry.

I would hope you comment your code. That's documentation too, you know ;)

I run a small blog, although it mainly documented my fight with cancer. But I would really love to run a a web development blog, but I often wonder why anyone would bother reading it with so many excellent blogs out there.

Agree completely with this.

I would rather spend my time writing code than writing about it.

1) Self-documenting code is king
2) Of course not all code can be self-documenting and as such is commented

Documenting a program is part of creating it, I mean like I don't record my activities.

I hear ya :)

My blog is empty because it's content is scattered all over the place in the form of Articles for forums. One day I plan on populating it!

I have a blog that I don't post to. Nothing I could write about would be useful or interesting, and nobody wants to read what I write about. This developer does not need a blog.

Anyone know of a summary/transcript? I'm curious about his reasoning, but not curious enough to spend over an hour watching a talking head give a speech just to find out what it is. (Yes, I think that video in general is highly overrated, and video of presentations doubly so.)

Like others have already said, I tend to be more interested in doing than writing about doing, so I generally don't write much unless it's in response to someone else. As a result, I currently have three blogs, all of which are horribly neglected.

I'm not a prolific writer because (like many of you) I'm usually very busy working, but I do make blog entries every now and then. I tend to write about things that are new and/or are undocumented (at the time). There are a few trivial posts, but I've always tried to make the technical posts of the highest quality that I can. Well, earlier this year that paid off. One of my blog posts caught the eye of a technical training firm in NJ and I received a job offer as a result of one of my blog posts showing up in a Google search. My blog also supplemented my resume in helping me get an interview with a local consulting firm recently. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, don't underestimate the potential usefulness of having a developer blog.
