Why mobile websites are different from regular websites?

1. because of size. A site that is 1024x768 looks fine on a PC, but will be horrible to navigate on a mobile device with a screen size that's half that. This would make it a nightmare to navigate because of having to scroll left and right.

2. content. Some websites have content that just can't be shown on mobile devices. Mainly this deals with flash. Android is currently the only mobile device that can run flash(correct me if I am wrong). Therefore, there are a good majority of devices that simply can't view flash content. Therefore, the website creates a "mobile" version that removes the flash content for mobile devices.

Number one reason: Bandwidth Costs. When you're being charge for each byte of data, you want the site to be as light as possible.
