I think this is a very dick move by Oracle. I'm also laughing at all the 'open-evangelists' that constantly cry about C# being closed and how "Java can be used by anyone!!!!11" So much for it being open, huh?

Regardless of my personal thoughts, I thought that Google circumvented the license by not using J2ME?

Google got *more* people using Java on another platform (it's allowed me to use Java for mobile development at my internship), so I don't see why Oracle is suing. Honestly, I don't see Sun/Oracle putting as much support behind J2ME as Google does Android. The documentation for J2ME isn't great, which is different from Android. So if Google did get behind J2ME, that would be a good thing for Sun/Oracle as well in terms of marketing Java. Just my $0.02.

Agreed. Dick move. However, I'm pretty sure they aren't suing because they used Java. I had a feeling that once this was posted, it would immediately turn into a "HAHA, JAVA PEOPLE, HAHAH LOOK HAHA." thing. I was hoping I was wrong.

I wish that article was clearer on what exactly they are suing for. This sounds pretty similar to a particular lawsuit that Sun won against Microsoft many years ago.

This little play of words pretty much sums it all up: "build it and they will sue". Sigh, it is a sad day. It's another classic example of corporate greed.

Look! They built something really good, they are even using our open and free tool... Wait a minute, we want a slice out of that money pie too!

Well, at least now I understand why IBM are using their own Java VM. Good way to avoid money trolls.

Bottom line is this: if you are so upset that you did not think of this first, why not come with a creative way to make money? There is a free advertising wave they can ride there for god sakes...

Java was open before ORACLE Closed it recently! what will happen to PreOracle java users and softwares developed in java? I am scared the open source community could be bought n end up buying licenses!
