That's a claim without a warrant (or even a sweet Cherry Pie!). I demand satisfaction.

What about those of us with extremely common names? In the city in which I live, there are approximately 200 people with the same first/last name combo - and there are only a million people living here.

Is identity theft really that big of an issue? No one wants the financial liability resulting from identity theft; however, does that really explain usernames in place of real names? Before burnout I was an online-gameaholic and I had my favorite username, Alucard, Dracula spelled backwards! It was not uncommon for me to play three days straight without sleep, but with frantic begrudged bathroom runs. I would play until I fell asleep face first into my keyboard. I was Alucard by God!

What do you all think about establishing a new Dreamincode rule doing away with usernames and requiring everyone to use their real names instead?

I fail to see the connection between "online-gameaholic and I had my favorite username, Alucard" and "a new Dreamincode rule doing away with usernames and requiring everyone to use their real names instead".

Your story was either just fluff to get more than a statement out, or you failed to show us the internal links to removing user ids.

I say everyone is given a unique number (super more unique than a SSN), and that shit should be tattooed on your arm. Names and words are inherently fuzzy and not precise. Oh, that's right someone did that once. It was the Nazis. Your suggestion is in tune with the Nazis. How do you feel about that?

If JackOfAllTrades is counting - that's two Nazi posts this morning. Me 2.. internet 0.

What would history be able to say if Hitler and the Nazis had only used usernames?

I was "under personal stress at the time" from either worrying about having my idea linked with Hitler and the Nazis or maybe it was from drinking too much coffee, I can not remember!
