It appears usernames have been around longer than most people imagine. For example Mark Twain's username was Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

I remember my first "handle", it was "CyberPsycho". Ahh the 90's, so full of online predators and lots of MSN chat. Lots.

;( Is there a good way to petition Micro$oft? I want MSN chat back.

You have to be kidding me. What parent would name a child Langhorne?

Ahh, now it is starting to become clear to me. Parents are why we want to use usernames instead of real names.

Yeah, new fangled aliases. Not.

No one knows Homer's real name. Probably something a little absurd, like Vasili Popov.

And that Anonymous guy, he's everywhere.

Quote

I am not the Dread Pirate Roberts. My name is Ryan; I inherited the ship from the previous Dread Pirate Roberts, just as you will inherit it from me. The man I inherited it from is not the real Dread Pirate Roberts either. His name was Cummerbund. The real Roberts has been retired fifteen years and living like a king in Patagonia.

Hmm, so it seems, since programming languages have global variables humans also have collective consciousness usernames; e.g., Kilroy? Is that what you are implying?
