Should you be held accountable for internet comments you make with your alias username?
For example, when you apply for a government security clearance should you legally be required to list your usernames as aliases?
If so, should the government read all of your username posts for say the last five years to see if you have made internet comments not appreciated by the government?
Should you legally be required to list your usernames under aliases, for the last five years, when you apply for a job?
Should your prospective employer be legally required to read all of your username posts for say the last five years to see if you have made internet comments not appreciated by your prospective employer?
In essence should your username be considered a legal alias? Should you be held legally accountable for comments you make when you use a username as an alias?

Everything on the internet is traceable in some form. I don't say anything online that I wouldn't say out loud, in person.
Investigating a potential employee is the prerogative of the respective employer. Your use of the word "required" seems a bit over the top.

How would someone investigate you unless they knew your email, handles, or IP ??

they would get them. it's like, hey we're gonna hire this guy 'taylor smith', first let's do a google for his name! perhaps this turns up facebooks, twitter, etc. let's look around the web for people using the same handle. oh, and places where he links to those accounts. oh, because of this we know his birthdate. let's see registrations for people named taylor born on February 26, 1990. living in illinois? sure, why not! oh, he's registered on dreamincode? let's check out his personal post history!
it's pretty easy.

I've gamed online since around 1992 or so and have used the same name I've had since my days of playing competitive paintball. I have literally never run into someone who used the same name (unless they were smurfing me) so it's about as unique as one gets. I even had a former clan teammie ask if he could use the name at a RL Mechwarrior tournament and I agreed and he did.
That said, in real life, my name is shared by a male figure skater. Now, I have no problem with figure skaters in general but this guy is about as gh3y as they come (NTTAWWT...AIQW). I actually have a reason to use my online name so as to hide from my real life shame-by-association issues.

Jstall is a combination of my first and last name and has been a nickname I've had since I was around 14 or so. I've used it as an online handle for a long time now, it's pretty much always available
