I was trying the stream music over lan of VLC but it was not working. I was thinking how possibly could i make a sound server connect few laptops to it and all of them play same music synchronized. Any idea?

Sorry for the delay, I'm still new to DIC.
Anyway, It looks like real player is still around. From looking at their site it looks like they use a helix server to stream real player media.
It's all beyond me, but here is the link if you want to read more:
realnetworks helix-support

Its an older thread but in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation. Syncing audio over LAN is extremely difficult to do. Playing audio over LAN is as simple as setting a single "server" to set a playlist out to connected clients. a few cheap examples come to mind such as shoutcast (designed more for pod casting and internet radio) but it would still work the same. Again the hardest part about this is synchronizing to play at the same time. if you can deal with a few seconds to 30 seconds of out of sync then great but if you want real time synchronization your asking a lot of your network.
