Minecraft.

Posted 11 September 2010 - 05:04 PM

Does anyone here play it? If not, give it a try! It's a pretty awesome game created by a single indie dev that's really fun!

For example you can make this in game:

Test it out!

WTF is mindcraft, and why does it look like it is written off the DOOM 1 engine?

Just read about this on Destructiod like 20 min. ago.. Never heard if it before that, though. But, looks like we get a chanceto see first hand. They had some probems due to so many people playing it and now its free for the weekend. Going to check it out tomorrow when I can get to a better compter.

I've been pondering playing. The free version is pointless because there are no enemies or challenges. The pay-for version is still in alpha and only for windows. I've watched someone else waste hours and hours building giant towers that look like cocks though, and he seems to like it.

Wow that looks awesome. I'm going to get it thanks for telling us about it.

@modi123_1 I like good graphics too but a game doesn't have to have them to be fun. This game looks really fun.

I played a bit during the free weekend. It's fun. You break blocks, gather materials and build whatever you want.

Do you play with other people online, or is this a local install?

To play minecraft aplha locally you have to have played online at least once, btw. In other words, you have to buy it rather than use the free version.

This game is going big, very quick! I believe now 6 people in my class (and it is not a big class) at least have bought it.

It's written in java so OS shouldn't matter. I can confirm that the paid version runs just as well as the Windows version in Linux.
