The First Ever Clojure Conj

Post icon  Posted 17 September 2010 - 02:23 PM

On the 22nd and 23rd of October, the first ever Clojure conference, Clojure Conj, will be held in Durham, NC. This is an extremely exciting first for Clojure, and all of the big names in Clojure are going to be there. You can find more information here: http://first.clojure...org/information

I wasn't going to be able to afford to go, but I was approached by Chas Emerick (one of the speakers at the conference). He was disappointed that I wouldn't be able to attend, so he spoke with Relevance, the company that is organizing the conference, and they agreed to waive the $199 admission fee to the conveference, and pay for me and a passenger's three day stay at the Hilton, where the conference is being held. Chas then held a fund-raiser on his blog to try to raise $1000 for travel fees to get me to NC and back comfortably, and we reached and exceeded the $1000 goal in 72 minutes. You can find more information about all of that at http://cemerick.com/...-thanks-to-you/

The above is generally irrelevant to the conference itself, but it's a testament to how wonderful the Clojure community is, so I felt it was important to mention.

I don't know if anybody on DiC would be interested in going, but I thought I'd post this here to alert everybody about the event. If any DiC people plan on going, post here about it, and maybe we can meet! :>

Awesome! Sounds like lots of fun! That was really generous of the Clojure community to pay for your trip. Enjoy missing some school to go to an FP con! I have to admit I'm jealous, though. I'd love to miss school for a Java convention. You'll have to tell us how everything went. :)

I'm home-schooled, so I wont really be missing anything. I don't have a day-to-day school regimen. But I'll enjoy missing Alabama for a couple of days. ;)

And, I'm going to take my shitty laptop to NC with me, so I'll probably be tweeting and blogging about the trip on my blog while I'm gone.

It's going to be exciting.

I remember taking time away from school for conferences or vacations. Being home-schooled certainly had some advantages. Wish I had been more into computers back then, though I somehow doubt my mom would have taken off time for school to let me go DEFCON. :(

Congrats Raynes, you've earned it. :)

Nothing can compare to the picture of Sarah Palin I took on my phone when she came to my school for the campaign rally.

Bring back lots of pictures, autographs, and code though. :)
