Website Maintenance Cost

Posted 18 September 2010 - 11:47 AM

it is for my web developer friend
he is new at his job
he received a work to provide maintenance a website for a year
he didn't develop it
the company hired him to just provide maintenance and updates
but he is confused about how much he can ask him
they asked him what is the cost per year
but he is hesitated
So in your opinion, how much does this cost?

I guess it all depends on how big the site or project is he is being asked to maintain and how much work it would involve doing so.

I would depend on how much work they are likely to want done during the year.
Its a bit difficult to to give a figure thinking that they will not want much done then
they come back and say they want the whole site revamped.

You could go down the root of a per hour price:
eg: 1 hour = 20 (whatever applicable)

He should sit down have a talk with them to see what they want him to do
and come to a compromise.

You can buy webspace and a domain for about 5-10 per year.It takes about 24 hours to set up,from then you can upload the website and it will be active.Updating your website would be free if you are the one doing it.

Read the thread before answering.

@OP - Its a joomla based website (Joomla CMS) so the attual content editing will be simple enough. Maintaining and modifying the system takes skills in PHP, MySQL, HTML and CSS (non table based layout). He will also require knowlege of SEO and accessability.

But it comes down to the specifics of the task, is he just there for content support and if the site has an error to fix it or will he be utalised for graphics, changes to the systems core etc, could be anything from 1200 a year (100 a month) to 12000 a year (1000 a month) depending on if its a couple of hours a week or 6 hours a day...

Also, @Selvarajseo, your time is not free.
