Most Efficient Messaging System?

Posted 18 September 2010 - 05:36 PM

I am creating an online messaging system... in other words, a user types in how to send it to, types in the message, and hits send, and then the other user log-in, the message is displayed. I have this working, but it is very inefficient. The way I have it set up is that each person's inbox can hold up to two messages (MySQL table name is: inbox. Columns: Username, Fromone, Messageone, Fromtwo, Messagetwo. You can see how this overwrites the previous message if all columns are filled up) What is the most efficient way to create a messaging system? I figured it would have something to do with creating tables and looping through them in order to read any and all messages if sent. I've tried this but with no success. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

This tutorial probably provides a better explanation than I would. :)

Thank you! I was doing it correctly until I got to the while loop. Thanks macosxnerd101 and d.i.c, you're all lifesavers!
