Windows Phone 7 Developer Launch

Post icon  Posted 19 September 2010 - 10:31 AM

So has anyone considered attending any of the Win7 Phone launch events? The dates are coming up quickly. As much as the previous versions of the Windows for phone segment has been a let down I'm kind of excited to see what happens with this. Windows 7 for the desktop has been a breath of fresh air compared to Vista and even XP in a lot of ways so maybe they have it together this time. Reading about Win7 Phone seems to indicate it's a real leap from the past. There will be a few good workshops so I registered for both days in Philadelphia (10/5-10/6) after receiving an invite email.

Am I going to rush out and buy a Win7 Phone (currently with a WebOS phone and probably getting an Android phone in the next week or so)...probably not but I'm excited to see what it has to offer. Currently developing an android app and if it seems promising it might be worth porting it.

I really want to attend the bootcamp in Tulsa, OK but it really depends on what I'll have in college that day. WP7 is an interesting platform - I got to work with the SDK quite a bit and I can say that developers are able to create stunning apps and games for the phone (especially those coming with a Silverlight/XNA background). We'll see how it turns out to be.

You bet I'm excited! I really love working with this platform and while I have to create things for Blackberry for my job, I come home and have fun with WP7.

Does anyone know if there are going to be any talks here in Bolivia?

I would not mind having a Dev Phone to play with. But overall I am quite happy with my Android device.
Although I am quite impressed what Microsoft has done with Windows Mobile 7.

(Back on track)I would attends a launch event if I had a friend or something, that was getting one.

Looks like the kick in the berries for me is that this won't be released on my carrier anytime soon. Still going to the conf and hope to pick up some tricks that could help me develop apps for the platform and migrate my android app to it. Plus I graduate this semester so maybe I can network with some industry professionals.

Would have been nice if the SDK allowed VB.NET development. Well it didn't last time I checked.

I have to say I had a good time learning about the device today. I'm sure there wasn't anything totally groundbreaking in there but I did like what I heard and saw. A lot of the mistakes of the past windows phone OSes are gone and the interface is simply slick. If you have a Zune HD, it borrows a lot from that. There is so much eye candy that it's redic...they referred to it as "smile moments." They really did make me grin a little when I noticed some of the little intricacies of the look and feel. Screenshots sure don't do these little touches justice.

Tomorrow is workshop day so hopefully I learn what's what. Never really did any .net dev but I'm syntax familiar with C#.
