Chrome Overtaking Firefox
Posted 22 September 2010 - 05:46 PM
I receive feeds from Lifehacker all the time (as their news is sometimes pretty cool). One of the more recent feeds that is being talked about is the Lifehacker Browser results, where Chrome overtook Firefox as the preferred browser of Lifehacker users. Personally, I use Chrome more frequently, but still, this news actually shocked several people!

I was hesitant to switch to Chrome because Chrome does not (yet?) support pipelining. However, I tried it a couple months ago and have not used Firefox since.

I prefer firefox. Anyway, nowadays there are a good variety of really good browsers.
But my favorite browser ever was Opera 9

Oh my God!?!? Several people!?!?!?!?! How many!?!?! Three?!?!!?
I use Chrome myself. Not for any particular reason. I think I just like how it looks and feels.

Chrome is also my default browser. I've had it installed since version 3. I used to have IE8, Firefox, and Chrome on my Win7 taskbar. 2 months ago, I removed Firefox from the taskbar. I found that I just never used it anymore. I always took way too long to startup. I could open Chrome and browse to DIC before Firefox was even opened.
And just to be clear, the ONLY reason IE8 is on my taskbar is because our intranet sites don't work well on anything else. Also, our major(sellable) application only runs on IE. I've been doing some work to fix that.

Firefox has been my goto browser for a while, till my friend introduced me to Chrome.
After I installed Chrome and saw the option to transfer bookmark tabs over to Chrome
I haven't looked back.

I use chrome for my browsing, because it's got more space on a small screen and it's faster. But I use firefox for development because nothing comes close to firebug. If the webkit dev tools were better, I'd probably jump ship completely.

what I like about Chrome is the simple but yet eye-appealing interface and its speed, its serves every purpose of my daily browsing

I recently switched to chrome because Firefox kept hanging on page loads. 4 gigs of ram and you can't give me a smooth browsing experience?
I imported the bookmarks and haven't regretted the switch.

A friend of mine at college uses IETabs chrome plugin, any site that works better in IE (or only works in IE?) gets opened with the plugin and you can use IE straight from Chrome!
I always used to prefer Firefox, but now (especially seeing as my connection is very bad) the speed Chrome offers makes it pointless to use Firefox. I converted 100% to Chrome when their developer tools were created, but had in installed since day 1.

It'll be a long while till Chrome touches on Firefox' market share. What is it now, like ~25-30% vs ~7-10%? I just hope their increase gets taken out of IE's share rather than each others.
Personally I switch between Firefox, Chrome and even Opera practically every couple of hours. Still, it's pretty much a tie between Firefox and Chrome for me. Chrome is faster and cleaner, but Firefox is somehow more reliable (although that could just be my imagination).

Chrome is nice but I still prefure firefox.
Stats like this are not reliable since it relys on demographics. If you were to see the same study from say Google.com you would get a better and more realistic result rather than a website targetted at a specific audience. PEople who use lifehacker are likely to be atleast fairly compotent with computers and are far more likely to be using a browser like chrome.
The sites I work with at work tend to still favor IE6 > IE8 > FF > IE7 > Safari > Chrome > Opera but these are commercial sites that are accessed through office networks so as above, a biased demographic.
