I know python, which leads into pygame and html. <hobby> Like what i mean is sure you know code but that doesn't make you a programmer. Its all about crossing the line into a new zone, you take what you know and apply it to other things, like making a new file formate or making your very own high-level langue, its all just consepts, like they way we speak. Knowing code dont make you a good programer, that is like saying i know english, i am a essay writer. If you study and understand the type in this case "python" then you are able to fold it into something never seen before. Just like if you study english, becomeing a pro essay writter. Think on that and replay... :)

I'm going to have to chime in for Python.

Alas, since I work professionally in a Windows shop, it's mostly hobby. However, I did sneak it in as a mail archive daemon for IMAP, so perhaps I can claim it as work related.

Last week I had a special request from operations to take CSV data dumps from field devices, transform the CSV, move the output to another network. The little banged out python script was under 50 lines. I looked into IronPython then, but it lacked the libraries I'd used out of the box. The C# port was much less simple...

I suppose I should say what I do.

I love using Python as a hobby language because of the super fast development that doesn't lose much in the way of power. I mainly use it at the moment for translating my thoughts into code, and then I use Python to either write the application or to port it to other languages. I am still learning Python, so I don't use it as much as other languages, but I certainly enjoy it!

Try grasping Computer Thoery, once understood you start to invent amazing things :)

I've been tooling around with python here at work, updating scripts that nab datasheets for electrical components from supplier sites. I'm not an expert yet but man Python is super sleek stuff, very powerful :turned:

I use Python for some rather interesting things from time to time. Currently working on studying custom debuggers and other testing tools. I work with some network security so it saves me quite a bit of time over perl. Started out making programs to help me through math class and encode messages.

I like the streamlined nature of Python over the other less-abstracted O-O langs like c++ and Java. One thing I haven't been able to figure out is the TKinter - defiantly going to look into that Dogstopper. Written mostly interesting data structure ports from their java equivalents. Makes for interesting comparisons.

Made a Python BST someplace in here...

The higher my coursework gets - the less actual programming I do and the more theoretical paperwork becomes the norm.

Python would be interesting when integrated with an html backbone...

End musings....

Enjoy the coding while you can - it goes away pretty quickly.

I added you both to the list.

@toshiro, you might find my 5 part tutorial series on TKinter useful:

I certainly will enjoy the coding!

Hi there. I'm pretty new around here, so I'm just figuring things out.
I also write a lot of Python. Nice to meet you all.

I am learning Python right now, in fact that is what led me to this site. I have been programming in school for the past 5-6 years using c++, assembly, and Java most of the time. Now that I am out of school I've decided to teach myself Python since I've seen people use it in college and saw how awesome it was, but just never had the time during classes to learn it. Right now I am re-making a program to keep our mailing list at my work clean by removing duplicate and old entries. I already made this in c++, but am redoing it in Python to help me learn.

Hey everybody, I'm atraub, the Python forum leader. I've been programming Python as a hobbyist for about 4 years. I wrote a linux shell using Python that I named Monty, I really should put that on sourceforge at some point... I try to help people as quickly as possible, but I work a 8-5 job as a software engineer so sometimes that's a little difficult. Most days I'm at work listenin' to Pandora. :walkman:

Oh yeah, you'll notice I edit just about every post I write... I always find myself wanting to add more!

You know you can add yourself to the post right? Now that you're forum leader. Nice job around here by the way! I'm digging the discussions! As co-semi-forum leader, I have to say that you are doing a great person to add to the Python Roll Call!
