I recommend Core Python by Wesley Chun. It's very deep and comprehensive and has a large subject range.

The Best Way to Learn Python

A great collection of resources.. some odd ones that stand out "Build a Python Bot That Can Play Web Games", and a good "Build a Game" area.

There are some great resources here, awesome!

Just wanted to point out the "Python Ebooks" link in the initial post is dead.

I found an alternative list which listed "Dive Into Python" as the first choice:

Python Ebooks

I know I'm new, but I thought I'd suggest:
http://www.checkio.org/
Its kind of a game, but really its just a bunch of tasks or problems you have to solve in python (you can pick 2.7 or 3). They have an editor and interpreter that runs in your browser.

Also, if you want to code in python on your Android device, check out:
Py4A
Its used with SL4A and the default is Python 2.7, for which there are alot of examples and resources online. Alternately, you can download a Python3.3 version here which supports pip and distribute to install modules.

Hope that helps.

I have read both think python and learn pythong the hard way from that list. Both stay fairly basic, but are very good in my opinion at getting the basics across.

There is an excellent turtle tutorial at openbookproject.

For ease of reference, this is the link for the turtle docs.

From the official wiki:

Performance Tips

What caught my eye in particular:

Quote

Besides the syntactic benefit of list comprehensions, they are often as fast or faster than equivalent use of map.

This looks to be a very useful resource:

Python 3 Patterns, Recipes and Idioms

As the introduction states, this is not an introductory book.

A note confirms that this is a "work in progress" but there is still enough good information here for it to be useful.
