Internet Explorer 9 Beta

Posted 18 October 2010 - 12:44 PM

I was just curious as to how many people are running the Beta version of Internet Explorer 9 and how you like it.

I'm running it. I think it has potential but there is so much still wrong with it right now that I find myself typically opening chrome instead. I'd dare say it's not ready for a 'beta' title based on how many sites are not working with it. The shame is that a lot of the microsoft stuff doesn't even work with it yet. When Chrome rolled out pretty much everything google worked with it. What was MS thinking when they failed to actively test it on their own sites before rolling it out?

Shame is MS has been doing some really awesome stuff lately. They kind of bumbled this roll out though.

Summed up. The browser has potential. Can demonstrate serious performance in certain scenarios. Still way too buggy.

Yeah, I'm running it but I've only ran into problems on one website. I've been to all the Microsoft websites and haven't had a single problem. The website that I had problems on is my college's student email log in page. So whenever I have to check my student email I just use Firefox.

I installed it for about 2 minutes. Once I saw that I had to do a reboot because of a browser install, that killed it for me.

HOPEFULLY, Microsoft will release IE9 as a STAND-ALONE application and not part of the OS. It is utterly retarded to have to do a reboot because of a browser install.

The OS integration is sort of one of the possible perks of the browser. Also a potential downside...meh. I'm giving it a shot.

If you're wanting to download it then here is a quick link to the download. Just choose English and then the correct operating system. Remember that Internet Explorer 9 is not available for XP. It was designed for Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Installing the required updates > Rebooting > Installing the browser > Rebooting. WTF?
Also, I haven't used any IE(except IE6) so I don't know what's different in this one.

In other news, Opera 11 alpha too, is out. Anyone tried it? Get it here

Hey look! It's like an amalgam of features nicked from other browsers!

IE is crap and will always be so. Chrome is the future. Firefox is the present.

All browsers take features from other browsers. Tabbed windows? Firefox or Opera had it first(can't remember). OmniBox? Chrome had it first. Integrated syncing of bookmarks? Opera. Tabs on top interface? Chrome. Extensions? Firefox had them first.

To me, Opera and Chrome are the leaders in the browser wars when it comes to innovation.

Opera was the first I remember to have the ability to pause downloads. :') Good memories. I've used Opera since version 5 or 6 I think, and it was a blast to use. I remember loving having that percentage number on the bottom right to see how many more images needed to load among other useful info.

Guys, give Opera 11 Alpha a shot, it's really good and fast.

Chrome will be the future. Firefox is great, but add-ons cause it to slow down, and it's HTML display & processing is slower and not as good as chrome's. Chrome is developing a better platform for addons, and chrome addons are instanced, so they don't slow down your browsing (they might slow down your computer if you have a really slow computer). Opera is all good, and it looks all nice. I too like the oepra's UI, and the ability it gives you to see what it's doing, but I think it's started incorporating add-ons too late, as has IE. Fair point that all browsers use features from each other.

I'm not a fan of all the add-ons. I mean if you want something like that on your browser then build the browser with that integrated into it.
