What are you working on?

Posted 20 October 2010 - 03:00 PM

I just cleaned up some code in the DIC header that was running several queries, then just commenting out the output.... WHAAA?! Also tweaked some of the links in the main navigation up top.

What are you working on today?

(Keep this thread related to work/school/hobby tasks... not "mowing the yard")

Working on a cross platform physics engine, I'm having trouble with simulating the moment of inertia. All in all it's a great learning experience but very slow progress.

Oh God...I'm in hell. I get all the shit jobs handed to me because I'm remote from the rest of the office. I'm trying to restore some data (via an update) into an indexing system, but running into issues because all I can do is submit the updates into a queue, where a separate process feeds the updated data to the third-party indexer (think Sphinx, Chris, only NOT Sphinx). However, the UPDATES ARE DISAPPEARING and not providing me with any errors or audit trail to follow. Of course, I had nothing whatsoever to do with this subsystem in our overall product, so I'm lost trying to figure out where the hell these updates keep going. A good number of them succeeded previously, so it's not my code.

Frustration...I'm losing even more of my gray hair :(

Today I have been trying to figure out how to make a ball bounce of a bat diagonally like in breakout (didn't fix it yet haha) and working on a website for a client. Not a very productive day today to be honest!

CryEngine

I'm not sure. I might start some UDK game development or work on my website some more.

CC, check out Unity if you haven't already. It's pretty easy and fun.

I'm in the process of developing a customer notification package that interfaces with QuickBooks so that when the customer is selected in QuickBooks for an invoice or sales order, my database is queried and any important notes about the customer pops up in a window at the bottom of the screen so that they are readily known at the time of invoicing.

Right now I'm working on the database front end where the user can enter their notes for said customer.

Things like:
This customer request that we use their fed-ex account for shipping

There is also a section that brings out the DEA registration information for people purchasing regulated products for re-distribution.

Oy, where to start. Today was filled with fixing bugs in a web portal, plus devloping some new automated features to handle inactive agency accounts.

Then continuing conversion of a huge Centura SQLWindows program to use DB2 as a back end instead of Oracle 8i. That project has been ongoing for the last 1-1/2 years.

Updating a desktop application to store serialized emails in a database, so that users can retrieve and resend those emails at anytime.

I've been writing a database connector in java that captures UDP broadcast traffic from EPOS devices I don't have the specs for. Wireshark ftw.
Also trying to work out a way to cache facebook requests when the users have 1600+ friends to sort through so the client's website doesn't hang for five minutes. My best hack at the moment involves forking a process to populate the cache while distracting the user with smoke and mirrors.
Also writing a swear filter (a lot of the things I end up working on are just as useless)

For non-work related funtimes, I'm taking some old code I wrote and making it into a jquery plugin.

I also just finished building the Sphinx index for the Code Snippets... figuring out how best to do the search interface for that.

No, it's actually now a Microsoft product. Part of Sharepoint 2010. One of my tasks coming up is to migrate to a different product, probably either Sphinx or Lucene/Solr, as the current is too expensive to scale and non-performant (although it could actually be our integration is bad...not that the boss would ever admit it, as it was his doing :) )
