Ever wonder where all the spam posts come from
Posted 25 October 2010 - 07:00 AM
So I was browsing around the old rent-a-coder site, now vworker and came upon a job offer that made me catch my breath. People are actually being paid to spam.
Well the offer was in the line of "create 36 accounts on 36 different forums and make one post containing a link" and for that you get paid. Another offer was to troll through websites and gather their contact details and mail them with services offering, for this you also get paid.
Well for one thing I realised that vworker was a ball of snot and even though I have been unemployed for more than a year now I refuse to sink to that level... I hate spam!!!
Just though I'd rant.

I know what you mean. These kinds of jobs actually make telemarketing look like a respectable profession.

There's a whole black market to spamming- this is small potatoes. I know it seems far away and untouchable but I'd bet at least half the people who have ever posted on this site know how to write a program to pull email addresses out of websites, and that kind of thing is of value to the right organization. This is of course without getting a tool such as "net tools" and having someone else's program do it for you- I cam up with a list of 300 or so emails when I ran the email scanner on 4chan a few times (no, I didn't keep them and I didn't do anything with them, I was just curious about what that program could come up with).
Seriously. This level of stuff is pretty close to the surface, I've heard of outfits here that will legally incorporate and hire people at three times the standard office wage if that person is competent and can keep their mouth shut. This is of course secondhand nonsense gossip- but there's a grain of truth in it.

I've actually taken jobs like this. The jobs I took were to create content, not solicit junk. So what. In any case I've seen, the job was posted by the people whom own &/or operate the forum.
ooooooh, now that's an idea!

Strange how man can always find a way to turn something so useful like the internet into something so riddled in evil...
Trust man to break anything he puts his hands on.
Well I hate spam to the point where I give my friends a tongue lashing when they send me stupid chain emails and fake missing person emails.
And don't get me started on all those dam 419 scams!
