Does your company use a Wiki to disseminate news and relevant information to its employees? Do you find this to be effective?
We have one at my work, so I wanted to get people's take on it

My last company did, and it worked pretty well. I have a feeling that at my current job getting anyone to use it would be an uphill struggle.

Employee experience with computers/internet/technology period runs the gamut, but it does seem to be working

I used it at an internship a few years ago. We were using it for documentation.

At the company I'm at now, we have a small IT department and a large sales/customer support component.
Believe me when I say, IT has no interest whatsoever in the spreading of this dangerous "know-ledge" to those most ill-suited for its proper and intended use. We have deliberately restricted access to the administrative features of the applications we've built/maintain specifically because the non-IT people here are likely the very origin of the saying "a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing"...although I'm sure it wasn't first uttered in that exact form but was something more along the lines of "hey, don't tell those guys shit...they'll fuck it up so bad it'll make the baby Jebus cry" and then it just gradually morphed into the more commonly known catchphrase.

Yeah admin access is restricted bur it does seem useful as a means of communicating ideas to the employee body at large

I'd like to get one running at my work because I'm doing lots of work with the new CMS and don't really have a place to put anything I'm learning. Especially important because the company that makes the CMS is pretty lacking in information so you have to go crawling over their forums to find anything useful.

We have one that we use at work for help. I work in a call in center for a fairly large ISP (now a megapath brand...) and we have an internal wiki that helps you out in case you have a brain fart. It's updated pretty regularly by our support team and I use it daily for walk throughs

I do a lot of website work for an agency, not too long ago we switched from using a redmine like software to media wiki. It is so much easier to manage projects!
