A law has been passed in the UK and soon to be passed in the USA that allows the government to cut machines off from the internet. Obama has apparantly rquested a kill switch that will lock down the internet in the usa should there be a malware attack. Also the two governments want to bring in licensing laws. Free speech is dead! Guess who is in on it? Yup you guessed it, Microsoft.

As long as your smart, internet will never go away... Besides, I would like to see some kind of source.. You can't expect us to believe you without backing yourself up with a link or something, right? That law will never pass in the US. There are way too many liberals today that will never give up their freedom to do what they please on the internet...

Internet Kill Switch
It is funny how Stuxnet appears then there laws are rushed through. It was probably America and Isreal who made the Stuxnet worm.

It's ironic people try to turn off the internet, since the idea for it's creation was to make something you couldn't.
Free speech? The Internet is a medium; granted a ubiquitous one. However, even faced with something as draconian as the Chinese firewall, ideas manage to escape. Though there is a price.
Lack of free speech is when you silence the speaker, not just control their interwebs, turn off their printing press, break their pencil. As long a people are free to speak their minds without fear of reprisal, they will. That is free speech. Not bitching that the Conservative rag wont print my dirty hippy op ed piece.

Net Neutrality must live on! I can't imagine buying 'packages' of internet usage that defines a clear outline of what sites I can or can't visit.
Hell, I'm still baffled that carriers in the US charge customers for every message received!

It's bound to happen eventually. - If "freedom" is getting in the way of the government, and/or the companies it serves, making money... it's gone. (Not that this is specific to the US. Includes most of the "free" world, really.)

And you can just imagine the pressure the big software and media companies are putting on their government (emphasis on "their") to control the Internet so their produces stop being pirated.
The internet has gotten out of their control. It would be silly assume they are not going to try to take it back. And it would also be silly to assume somebody other than *you* are going to do something to stop them
If they tried that over here their headquarters would be in ruins the next day; overrun by pissed of teenagers
