What Do You Sit On?
Posted 10 November 2010 - 10:11 AM
As most of you know, I work from home and spend anywhere from 10-14 hours sitting in my home office. I have a cheapo Office Max "executive chair" with a nice high back, but very little support. Being 6'4, I almost always lean back and slouch. I'm curious what you sit on at work and how you prevent back pain and various other issues of being an office worker (carpal tunnel, etc.)
I've been considering getting one of these: http://ergohuman.com...uman-me7erg.htm
Does anyone sit on a yoga ball? Tell us what you sit on and how you keep your back and wrists in good shape.

I sit on a crappy leather desk chair and twist my form into hideous shapes in order to prop my feet up on my bed way off to the left of my desk. When (inevitably) my back starts hurting, I sit cross legged on my desk chair which actually helps a lot.

I keep two chairs.
1) WalMart mesh high-back without the arms attached
2) Ergo artist/architect chair
Despite a head-on motorcycle accident a couple years ago, I find that switching between the two every hour or 2 keeps me discomfort-free even on marathon coding sessions.
I set my iPhone countdown timer for 60 minutes. Every alarm I get up, stretch my legs, take the dog for a walk then SWITCH CHAIRS.

http://www.officemax...uct-prod3270156 I have one of these. Let me mention this is an expensive chair, however, this chair is amazing. This chair is very comfortable, you can sit for hours and have plenty of butt comfort.

I use the seat of a super-cheap office chair, bolted onto a stool. I used to use a chair like you would use in your living room (except for the casters bolted onto the bottom to let it roll around), but that got uncomfortable after long periods sitting down. the stool took some getting used to, but I really like it now.

Sharing is caring so let me share what i know about back pain.
If you have a back pain, use hotbags or hot water bath.
My father used to sit on the massaging chair and I've that chair coz he's not home at the moment.
It's kinda expensive considering the normal chair, office chair and something like that but it really is very relaxing.
And if you wanna buy it then here's the site: That's the product I've it in my home.
It didn't cost me 2.39k USD but well it was around 2k for us. If you have that chair, you SHOULD not worry about your back pain.
* But let me tell you one more thing, more relaxing the chair is, lesser your concentration towards your work.
_ 85% of a month, i sleep on that chair. x)
Take care of your health mates, uncles and aunties.
_ Your health matters much compared to sitting on your chair and working on your PC.

I just have what I consider to be a typical office chair.

That's roughly what it looks like, however a bit more beaten up.
It was my Dad's old office chair.

Chris, that chair you're looking at looks quite comfortable. Well, since I'm in college, it ranges from chairs in class (which are sometimes very comfortable), to chairs in the library, to the chair in my dorm room which sort of reclines on a wooden frame. Honestly it's not too bad but I have an issue where if I'm sitting at the computer coding for my web development class, my butt gets tired.

This is my chair. Snagged it when a neighbor's cubicle got freed up.
