not a member of 'String'

The following code give the error for "Itemcost" is not a member of 'String' I didnt know what you all knew to figure this out.

Dim LINQ = From food In StoreItems
                       Order By food.ItemName Ascending
                      Select food.ItemName, food.Itemcost
            If (food.Itemcost = 0) Then

            Else : ListBox1.Items.Add("$" & food.Itemcost & " - [" & food.ItemName & "]") 'loaded values'
            End If

Not vb6. So moving to correct forum which is vb.net.

What is StoreItems a collection of? Is it strings?
