DirectX is Microsoft's proprietary collection of API's for multimedia programming. It consists of API's for 3D and 2D graphics, audio and input among others. DirectX is also used to power Microsoft's XNA game studio.

Getting Started

Resources and Tutorials

Getting a window up and running and a 3D primitive is a lot of initial work in DirectX so should be the first thing to get the hang of when learning. Although DirectX seems daunting to start with it eventually becomes quite nice to use and has some great features that OpenGL does not.

Good luck!
