Beginner level programming projects using c/c++ and multithreading on

Posted 12 December 2010 - 11:37 AM

Hello everyone.

I have just started learning about Multithreading. I think I have understood a decent amount of stuff. However that has been theoritical. I feel doing a hands-on would help me grasp the concepts better. Hence I need to start with a small project involving c/c++ and multithreading on Unix. I would really appreciate if someone could suggest me some. Thanks in advance

The thread title states:

Beginner level programming projects using c/c++ and multithreading

So do you want some beginning level C/C++ projects or C/C++ multi-threading projects?

There is no way multi-threading can be considered beginning level C/C++.

Jim,

Thanks for stopping by, to post a reply to this thread. Yes, I actually meant C/C++ multi-threading projects. I mean project in c/c++ that require beginner level knowledge of multithreading. Required C/C++ expertise level could be high- It won't be a problem; I am quite okay with that. The important need here is the level of multithreading should be beginner level and should be on Unix/linux. Hope I dont sound ambigous this time :-)

Well a simple concurrent task would be to take an array of numbers, split it into two halves, sort each half using two child threads.

The parent waits for both to complete, then performs a merge on the result to produce a final sorted array.
