Posted 17 December 2010 - 01:53 PM

Hi guys ive finally finish my assignment and now i need to make an exe for the lecturer to use.

How do i do this? There is no .exe in he debug or release subfolders.

I did try desklight but it only converts the main interface file. I have an ria service
which i perform multiple queries from a local database.

Any ideas , links etc would be great

There is no "exe" for Silverlight. Silverlight uses a "xap" file extension which is basically just a zip file. You deploy the application by deploying the website and webservice.

Define "local database". Normally, the database resides on a server(where the application is published), and the OOB app connects to the server.

Where is your "local database" residing at? On the PC itself?

Yes its on my pc. Its a project for university and im unable to submit it on a CD because of this issue.

SQL server express used for the database. I created and ulter the database from inside vs2010.

That's still a "server" database. It is "local" to you because your application is being "published" to your PC. Therefore, it can communicate with the Express database on your PC.

You need to use IsolatedStorage if you want the database to go with the application. This is called an embedded database for Silverlight. One such embedded database for Silverlight is Perst.

One thing that you seem to have misunderstood about Silverlight. Silverlight is not a Windows executable application. It's a web application. While OOB blurs that line between Windows and Web a little, ALL Silverlight applications are still web applications. It's not a "here you go, install it on your PC" type of application.

Thanks for the response. I knew silverlight was a web application development tool, just seems strange that my lecturer wanted this on a disc. You have cleared things up for me and i will explain too him the problem i had.

Thanks

Yes, it is very strange that your instructor has asked for the application on a disc. Perhaps simply giving him the .xap file will work? He can put that into a directory on a published website and start using it.
