I believe all these acts of violence in the News of children at schools attacking other children is an underlying desire for celebrity status. The mentally unstable see these news reports as entertainment and believe if they pull off some heinous act, they will be notorious. I believe as a society we need to change the attitude toward these individuals. This can possibly be done by changing a few things.

1. Mentally ill individuals who commit heinous crimes should be placed in Mental Health facilities, for a period of time not to be less than twice the amount of time required for incarceration of a SANE person commiting the same crime. (is this possible?)( If death is waranted by a jury, it should be performed imediately, if not sooner)

I believe Mental Therapy requires more effort to cure than Social Therapy (Incarceration)

2. News Media need to imply, state, infer, flat out say, "A Mentally Ill individual, attacked and killed, stabbed, raped, etc.
untill these Mentally Ill people quit seeing performing these acts as a way to noteriety.

3. Eliminate the growing "Politically Correct" crap which keeps people from stating common sence observations in an effort to keep from hurting someones feelings or making someone feel uncomforable with themselves. I think the Politicians have too much control as it is, lets at least take back our personal right to express our view. If you don't like what I say, you don't have to listen, If you don't like what I type, you don't have to read it, If you don't like my music, put on your headhones and listen to your own, I don't like yours either.

If a desire for celebrity status or notoriety is what these people are looking for, would the answer simply be to NOT report them in the media?

Agreed, but the point of my statement was to note that a desire for notoriety is not the single casue of these incidents - if there were a single cause, stopping them would be easy.

they say violence in games and tv is making children more used to the idea of violence and gore.

perhaps they are just normal people who are bored or angry. A lot of people do outrageous things for notoriety. For intance: Johnny Knoxville. Do you think he is mentally ill?

Animals are inherently violent, I'm not talking about those that have been tamed or domesticated, Having a healthy mental state in a HUMAN society means ruling your emotions with intelegence, in my opinion of course.

Video Games, TV, Radio as each of these were introduced to society, there have been those who try to blame societies problems on them, it is usually those who object to their children learning anything resembling self awareness and opinions other than those of their parents.

I didn't say to wish noteriety is mentally ill, to seek noteriety through heinous acts is mentally ill.

No, the difference is that I had the moral self control and mental stability to not allow my emotional responce to rule my actions. I had the balls to control myself, not inflict my physical self when reason could prevale.

People who say Video Games affect the way teenagers think are so wrong as to have it completely backwards, Video Games are what they are because that is what people want, a nice healthy way to expell their anger and frustration.
