Choosing A Website/Domain Name

Posted 26 December 2010 - 06:18 PM

Everyone liks a good pun or clever url or website name, but I'm really struggling to come up with one.
Does anyone have any tips or ideas?
The website will be mainly blog and hosted projects and images etc. and it'l most likely be a .co.uk url.
The blog will be mainly programming related stuff, sort of a dev-blog, but it will also include stuff about games, software and computing in general.
Projects will be stuff like small games I'm working on, maybe little tool programs etc.
Also if any of my little games are worth selling eventually, I may also use the website to advertise and sell them.

and If anyone has a good clever url or website name, maybe post it? :D

Can we get a bit more on content to help focus the name search down?

I see you have listed some type of distribution of tools and software that you may write in the future. What name would you be distributing them under?

My suggestion is to avoid the puns and wordplay (can confuse people in remembering how to spell). Go with something very short. And go with one, two words max (you'd be surprised how many people want to put spaces when they go to sites with two word names... example mine is lordofduct.com, and numerous of people want to go to "lord of duck.com", yes duck). Think about the memorable names, google, amazon, reddit, facebook, etc. Simple, one word, identifying names... yet they hardly describe what the site is, and instead is their trademark. Not to say you're an international commerce site or the sort... but you can still take a nod from them.

I don't know if your name here is any indication of you but variants of 'reap what you sow' in mind.

joesreap.co.uk
newjoe.co.uk
freejoe.co.uk

etc..
