I thought it would be cool to see what all of us have sworn to do with the turn of the year to make ourselves better in 2011, whether it is for yourself, your friends and family, or even for work. What is it you want to do to get more out of the next year?
I have decided that I am not going to complain and moan every given opportunity at work, it has been really trying lately, and I have given so many people my honest opinion and it really isn't getting me anywhere so I may as well use that energy positively and maybe just work a little harder.
I have been with my amazing girlfriend for not too far off two years now, and we are adamant about getting a place together, so this year I am going to save up at least £6000 and I look forward to more than doubling that in 2012 after the VATin the UK goes back to normal.
There are a lot of inspirational people out there, but I really think I could make the little bit of the world around me better if I was a little like the late Randy Pausch. If you don't know the name, look him up with the phrase "last lecture" it is over an hour, so make sure you're comfortable. But seeing the way he handled the cards he was dealt, and how he ceaselessly helped everyone else make the most of everything, I think we could all do with being a little more like him.
Back in 09, in November, I had just finished my professional qualifying course for my promotion in the RN despite the fact it was 42 weeks long, it was by no means the harder, or more important half of what I needed to get promoted. on the 14th day of 15 in a three week Leadership course, all my hopes and aspirations were dashed in a 5 minute conversation. This May I have my second opportunity to get through this course, and I am going to do so with a smile on my face. I know what to expect, I know what is expected of me, and this time it will be in summer so I shall not be swimming in my sleeping bag either
That is what I intend to make of the year, and I will better it the year after, what about yourselves?
