Here comes Spring!

Posted 05 January 2011 - 11:29 PM

Fall's long gone, Christmas and New Year's have had their time in the spotlight, and unfortunately winter break is coming to an end. What classes are you taking this Spring? Anything you're excited about, dreading, or worried about?

Here's my classload:
Calculus 2 (Integral Calc)
JAVA 1
Government 1
Rhetoric (English 1 + 2 combined)
Physics 1 (Mechanics and Heat)
Total 17 semester hours (~25-26 quarter hours)

Overall I'm pretty happy with my classes - I'm really looking forward to JAVA (I only really have C++ experience, and barely went beyond "Hello, World!" with JAVA), as it will be my first ever CS class. I really enjoyed calc 1, so calc 2 I'm hoping will be equally fun. Don't know what to expect from physics but I'm keeping my hopes high. Gov't and rhetoric are just fillers, but fillers I'm going to bust my balls at to make sure I have an A.

How about you?

We don't have a spring semester here; I am so far north that we are starting the winter semester.

This semester I'll be taking:

MATH 1000 - Calculus I
MATH 2050 - Linear Algebra I
COMP 1710 - Object-Oriented Programming I
ECON 2010 - Introduction to Microeconomics
BUSI 1000 - Introduction to Business in Society

I'm sitting in my econ class now waiting for things to get started, and I just finished my first programming class. Unfortunately, since the semester just started we are only going over the administrative details and haven't actually gotten in to any course work or lectures yet. I think my classes will be fun!

Nothing but Computer Science classes left until my degree. Exactly how it should be

These are the classes I'm taking this Spring Semester:

Theory of Computation
Computer Architecture
Algorithms and Data Structures
Computer and Network Security
Design/Implementation of Relational Databases

Expectations: I'm assuming Computer Architecture will be the hardest, Databases will be the easiest, and I'll enjoy Algorithms and Data Structures the most.

Here's to a good semester! :smartass:

I'd lie if I said I wasn't envious! Even though yesterday was just administrative junk, each class still had a mini-lecture and I think I really enjoy all of my professors. It was a bit of big university shock for me - I've always been at smaller colleges until now. One class had 120 people, and another 140. Can't wait to get in some more CS heavy classes.

Theory of computation can be a tough one, depending on how your lecturer decides to approach it, but there's some cool and interesting stuff to learn, I would like to do more of that for my masters if the opportunity comes up.

Oh believe me I've heard all about Theory. I know it can be a tough one!

Luckily I have the easier of the two professors next semester, plus I took Concepts of Programming Languages last semester which gave me a decent introduction to Grammar and all that good stuff.

ENG HON 3
DIGI DESIGN 4
CALCULUS
ANATOMY PHYSIOLOGY HON
WEB DEV 4
GAME & SIM PROG
AP SPANISH

The only one I'm worried about is Calculus. I despise math, which is weird because I'm good at it for some reason. All my other classes I think I'll enjoy, since I've had the teachers in previous years.

I'll be doing:

Introduction to Databases
Human-Centric Computing
Algorithmic Foundations
Experimental Methods in Computing

When the semester starts but I have 2 more exams to go before then! My semester doesn't start until January the 31st, is that late? It seems late to me.

Yeah, this semester will be interesting.

FIN 323-Intro to Finance
IT 310-GUI Programming with C++ (my professor uses void main(void), should I be concerned?)
IT 317-Principle of Tech Architecture
IT 361-Systems Analysis

Yes. I'm not even a C++ programmer and I know that it's int main(), not void main().

Yeah, when my teacher did that, a friend and myself stared at each other and shook our head. Our previous C++ professor would puke if he saw that. It is sad that I pay so much for a class that I am going to have to teach myself if I want to pass.
