Computer case lighting

Posted 07 January 2011 - 10:00 AM

Hey there,

I'm in the process of building myself a pretty nice gaming rig (Rampage III Extreme, 8gbRam, i7 950, RealSSD128gb, etc). I've got some cold cathode lighthing, and it's red (it goes with my HAF X, which also has red fan lighting).

My question is: Has anyone seen any hardware which has configurable lighting, rather like Alienware's cases, as in you can change the color, etc of the the lighting using an application in Windows.

I'm prettey sure that something like this doesn't exist, but just on the offchance that it might...

Thanks.

There are switches you can get.. manual ones.. A fan I have is tri color... which is three more colors than I needed. Let me poke around a bit and see if anyone has something like that set up. I would figure if you have switches.. then you can get them into a board that feeds into a usb port and you can write code for. *lots of hand waving gestures*

sound controlled lighting..

So yeah.. you can put in the colors you want and hook them up to the switches.

some videos to look at:

Interesting... but they're still all hardware based. I recognize that what I'm looking for might not exist, but if anyone else knows anything, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

It doesn't look like anything COTs is available. You would have to build it.

Here's a guy doing the same thing:

I know that Apple has a patent on color changing case with a software control panel.

Thanks to both of you. I'll probably look into building my own, as $99 is a bit steep for some lights.

I demand copious amounts of pictures in the 'share your project' area!

I don't know much about the HAF X case, but I have one of it's slightly smaller siblings, the Scout, and I absolutely love this case. There are fans with built in red LED's all over the place, so I didn't bother getting any other lighting when I built this rig. I agree with modi123_1, I demand screenshots, pictures!
