I Lost on Jeopardy... baby.

Posted 17 January 2011 - 09:27 PM

The popularity of Americas favorite quiz show, Jeopardy!, stems from the unique challenges it poses to its contestants: the breadth of topics; the puns, metaphors, and slang in the questions; the speed it takes to buzz and answer.

Watch the video to find out how overcoming the unique... challenges of Jeopardy! is especially difficult for a system like Watson.

Watson, the IBM computer that will compete on Jeopardy!, represents an impressive leap forward in analytics and systems design. The underlying DeepQA architecture is designed to find the meaning behind a question posed in natural language and deliver a single, precise answer.

This is such a great video to watch. I am extremely interested in AI (hopefully going to university for Comp Sci and AI next year) so it is really good to see Watson going on a popular quiz show for humans. There are so many industries that this could be developed for.
