Hi.At home i write code (C++) in Code::Blocks,and as a SO i'm using Linux. The problem is that i kinda have to present what i have done on a different enviroment (Windows), and i have to always istall APIs and stuff like that (on the PC that i'm using for presentation).
So, I thought a nice way to do some good stuff, not spending a hour setting up MinGW on Windows, would be to have a portable Linux.I have a 2GB Flash Drive (so there's not mutch space), so i would like to give it a try...but is there any way of installing Linux on a Flash Stick, and just put it in and expect it to work? (i don't mean the test-the-OS-without-installing-it , that Ubuntu has.I want something permanent).
Or, i don't know...maybe a way to put the verry basic things on, so i can just install codeblocks and my APIs, and go to work? (that's the main purpose)

Hi Patrunjel
I have not run Linux from a USB drive before However I did try out a few live distro's from CD that should run from USB also.
I tried a version of puppy Linux a while back, this loaded from the CD into memory and ran great on my old laptop (think the ISO is around 120mb) It came with applications pre-installed for web browsing and word processing etc.
these links might be useful.

There is also tiny core Linux which is around 10mb to start with and you add to it the software you need to make it the system you want. When i first came across this I had only just started using Linux and it seemed a little advanced for me at the time, its something I plan to try again though as I become more familiar with Linux.

hope these links are of some help.

I've booted Ubuntu linux from a 4gb flash drive before, and I still do occasionally.

There is a guide that shows you how to install the ISO to a USB drive/CD.

^ ^ Thanks a lot for the info .I will choose Ubuntu (i have it at home too), but TynyCore kinda blew my mind.Thanks.10mb for a OS...Better than sex (actually, i like programming...so, i guess it's better than porn
)
^ quote: "That's it! When the process completes, you'll be ready to restart your computer and begin installing Ubuntu." I don't want to install Ubuntu, and just put the ISO on the USB.I want to install Ubuntu on the Flash Drive. Can you help with a oppinion on how to do that? (if possible)
But, anyway, thanks a lot for the link, 51% of the download...can't wait to see how it works (and get a "to be or not to be"-like question. If I save something on the Ubuntu on the Flash Drive, does it stay there?(that was my actual purpose in doing this) )
But thanks anyway for the answers
PS: Done, thank you! The Ubuntu 10.10 live CD does exactly what i want (preety slow, thought, but you don't need tarrabytes of RAM to open a text editor
).

I don't know if this really matters to you or not but you could install Unetbootin and turn a flash drive into a live cd that stores settings. I use mine all the time

This post is from a Linux flash drive (also 2gb) :
It's part of a Ultimate Boot Disk software iso.
