I'm currently developing a mobile application for my small business and there is a website that provides what Im doing but on the mobile platform. I've talked to them about buying the domain and they would like to hear more and asked for a proposal and they'd gladly listen.
I'm curious though because I suck at presentations and writing proposals. If the same domain is available but say one letter off, provides the same information which is freely available could I get into any trouble for it?

You should be able to go for the other names such as .biz .org or w/e extension you want. Although if you got a website named harrypotterspels instead of harrypotterspells I could see potential lawsuit in that. But I know little on laws.Hope this helps

If they have a trademark then you might be getting into some shitty waters. If you really want to know you could always consult a lawyer or an attorney for a small fee about the legality of it all.

hit it right on the head. Talk to a lawyer.
Anymore & the fact that something is or isn't legal no longer matters. America is so sue happy that you need to invest in a little C.Y.A. before doing anything.
