Calling an External Program in XCode

Hi all!

I'm pretty new to obj-C & XCode, so sorry if this is simple... How do you reference other programs, say if I wanted a button-click to call the browser with a certain address, or bring up the default text editor. something like the system() call? Thanks.

XCode 3.2.5
OSX 10.6.6
