Web Design Tutorials

Posted 31 January 2011 - 09:48 AM

I've just started doing research on my first big programming project which will be an interactive e-Learning website and this will, obviously, require that I make a website. Unfortunately for me, I do not have a single artistic bone in my body. Because of this, the design will be one of the harder parts of the project for me.

What are some good sites for Photoshop tutorials? I desperately need to learn how to design a nice layout. I want something that is easy on the eyes. The front page of my website will be similar to that of Facebook. I haven't given much thought as to the rest of the site yet, that will come with time.

This is a very long-term project (I would like to finish by September of 2012, which gives me 21 months) so I have plenty of time to learn whatever it is that I need to learn. This project is important to me because I will use it to (hopefully) secure a decent internship. So it has to be pro. :P

Less is more, dont over complicate the design until you feel really comfortable with the software and process of turning it into a working webpage.

I used to use pixel2life.com when I was getting started.
PSD.tutsplus.com is also a good place to learn.

Both of these sites look great. Unfortunately I just found out that I have tests coming up in all 5 of my courses, all within a week of each other. Hopefully I will get a chance to have a closer look soon!

Envato puts out a lot of great tutorials on the Tutsplus Network. There are some coding tutorials as well for specified layouts. They range from beginner to expert tutorials, and the timeliness changes based on the difficulty.

You don't need to be artistic. Good Design is not related to good creativity. Innovative concepts are.

Design is the placement of elements, typography, and colors to best engage your users. It is a solid field that does not need creativity.
