Welcome to DIC Vance. Mind if I ask what you work with primarily? I'm following a Java path so it'd be groovy to hear from more people using it day to day.

I primarily work with a L.A.M.P stack. I haven't used java in a few years now, but the uses for java are growing daily.

init, If you don't mind me picking your your brain for a moment I'm curious what your view of my project plan would be. I'm teaching myself Java and for a motivation project my current plan is to aggregate several websites worth of information on one site and provide simple search functionality.

I plan on using Java to extract usable data from multiple sources and formats (ranging from email, possible rss feed, html captures and such), pump it out in HTML format with a Java applet front end. If this doesn't sound too bad or makes you wince and consider chopping off a finger instead based on your experience I am curious to hear your thoughts either way.

Someone with your experience could probably pull this off in one day with a little php and an sql database. I don't mind doing it the slow way to teach myself Java but maybe I should be learning something else for this project eh?

Sorry for the delayed response, as I just remembered this thread.

I would do this in PHP. It would be much much easier.
