Database to Excel

Posted 05 February 2011 - 11:42 AM

I was wondering if someone could point me to a tutorial or just tell me if this is possible and offer advice. I want to query information from a database and put into a excel template worksheet. The template will have predetermined calculations done on columns (is this possible?). This has to be done many times for different students. So what I was thinking was to query the information from the database, put into a dataset, somehow transfer to excel template, and save the worksheet in students name. Then this would be done for each student so they can get a individual report. I want a user interface and the ability to add other components so I am using c# and sql express. Would this be the best way of going about it? If so, my troubles would be writing to excel, saving and redoing the process for each student. Thanks for your help.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Yes this is quite possible. You are on the right track by breaking this down in to parts. Querying the database into a dataset... then taking each row and shoving it into an excel spread sheet file. I am certain you can 'read in' a template or make modifications to a template.. that will be tricky.
