Baldies Vs Hairies

Posted 09 February 2011 - 07:41 AM

Sadly this isn't a topic about who is better, people with or without hair. Sorry to disappoint! :D

Did anyone used to play a old game called baldies, it was a game i used to play alot when i was younger and i think its now "abandon ware". I tried running it on my computer now but couldn't get it going, mainly because it used to use DirectX 2. Which i think some of the features of that are not compatible any more. or it could just be badly programmed.

I'm just interested if anyone else used to play it on here apart from me?

The aim of the game is to completely kill every baldy of the opposing team; usually the hairies. This is achieved by constructing houses which in turn breed baldies. After this, you may construct a barracks and/or a scientist lab. A barracks builds bullets for the first stage of the house, then grenades. Soldiers outside equip these items.
Scientist labs research and create inventions, which can burn, blow up, drown etc. other baldies and hairies. These inventions can be very handy.
After constructing 4 big houses, you may give your baldies wings, which in turn allows you to fly your soldiers into enemy houses or just to particular spots.

Thanks,
Tom

looks to be an old DOS/Win9x game.

Use DOSBox to play it (a Dos emulator)

http://www.dosbox.com/

and no, I never played it.

It's a shame when some of these cool old concepts get abandoned and left to legacy hardware/software. One example is redneck rampage, that could be a cool game if someone took the time to make a new one. The fact that you drink whiskey and eat beef jerky for health is almost enough on it's own.

I have tried to use the emulator to run it but it comes up with the following error message: "this is a Windows NT windowed executable". Guessing it's not able to run it. Thanks anyway.

Thanks,
Tom

Lemmings is one of those old games I've tried to get working on newer computers. I've found some emulators, and even an iPhone version I think.

That means the version you have isn't a Dos version. They must have made an NT version as well.

Which yeah, you're probably shit out of luck then. Try finding the Dos version (the interbutts says there is a Dos version).

Have you tried compatibility mode? I know this is one of those windows features that never actually works and there are just faint rumors of people who have seen it work, but I am one of those people. I've used it to run older games in vista and it has worked, so it's worth a try.

@supersloth who says it isn't? Don't you like to keep your collection of balls in an faux antique box on the shelf?
