Starhopper.info

Posted 13 February 2011 - 07:23 AM

Hello guys and girls,

Just wanted to get some feedback on my website and I thought I would open the floor to all of you :)

http://www.starhopper.info

webs.com host the site. And I use the web-based CMS to add and alter it, as my current understanding of website publishing languages is nought. I have used the site for loads of things, but have decided to let old content linger, as I have become fed up of having an empty site. I hope to eventually have a lot of varied content on here, just need to do more work on the stuff i want to fill it with and less on the site itself. . .

As always VMT in advance for your time and feedback :)

I'd change the font in the menu, it looks gritty and... not... good.

Also, some spelling errors caught my eye as well, like in the 'programming' section, you say:

Good grammar is awesome brah :)

grrr, despite my best efforts at prodding and poking I cannot find an option to change the menu font, is there some piece of code I can add to effect the whole bar? Or should I look at different templates?

I don't know if the font has been changed since the above post, but the font I see looks fine for the menu.

I think by what NeverPool means by gritty, is that the font is a serif font and it's supposed to have those "flicks" on the end of each character. That's the font type.

I like to use century gothic or calibri usually in my stuff as it is easy to read but still visually interesting. I can't control the font in the menu as it is part of the site template I am using.

I have had a tidy up and general re-do over things like the template and fonts. And I have some FF plugins to try and keep my spelling and grammar in check, any fresh feedback would be welcome :)

p.s I know it's still barren, I intend to have some content up soon, still working on my consolidation project too.

Looks "premade"... almost as if it needs some personal touches.

It's mostly contents pushed into a template, I don;t want to put too much on the screen as I want it to keep the layout clean and let the visitors focus on the contents. Currently working on getting my first projects page up to speed with my actual progress on the project at the moment. What exactly do you mean by "personal touches NeverPool? I am going to add a few pictures to the about me page, and there will be other images to support projects and eventually tutorials. But for now it's little and often :)

As I said before, it looks 'premade', as if it where a cookie cutter theme pulled from a free template site. You should go for a more unique look :)

Burn that background... If a background is the first thing to catch my eye on visiting a site it has some serious problems. Other than that it only looks like a premade theme. Perhaps it would be a better idea to hire a designer to make you a theme instead.

I don't think my host would appreciate me burning my background :s

Webs offer hundreds of templates, and I would not know where to start with a custom one at the moment anyway.
