Hi what would you choose to make a chat in vb.net

-Winsock
-P2P
-Sockets

i don't know mutch about them but yea any one suggestions ???

but another question do you always have to make a server and client app ???

i have never done one but from what i have read the use Winsock. However it depends how complex it will be to have server and client part.

I would personally use the System.Net.Sockets object.. Winsock provides the same level of functionality except it is a com object and therefore depreciated... Now to your quoted question here.. You can always insert messages to an online sql database and have the application poll the database for messages.

Sockets, be warned with things like Silverlight support though.
If I remember correctly it does not support Sockets 'yet'.
