Using C++ in Real Time Business Apps

Posted 05 December 2006 - 09:00 PM

I know this must seem like a dumb question. I would like to know if anyone here thinks C++ is still used in the majority of building software. Why do I ask this? Look at our businesses and how they do business. All through the web. I know you can use write .NET web apps with C++ but is there anyone that works for a company that develops software that doesn't involve using a web browser? Is the .NET framework the only bright future for C++ application remaining alive?

Don't get me wrong, I know there are a lot of software, like Firefox, that is written in C++ but I am talking about business software.

you can't beat the power of C++, and, companies don't need a license to produce large scale applications.

Yeah, thats why I want to get into C++. There is no match for C++ when it comes to Desktop Applications. A lot of companies are switching to web-based applications, thus the reason for my question.

If I put time into learning C++. I want to be able to get a job using C++. I love programming for fun, don't get me wrong but I also need to make money and there are big bucks to be made out there.
