.NET ON LINUX

Posted 01 March 2011 - 10:34 PM

If I develop an application using VB.NET IDE on a Windows OS and I want to enable this application for a Linux or Unix, how do I do so?
Is there any way i can run an application developed in .NET on LINUX or
Can I develop an application using .NET on LINUX itself.

I am looking for articles, examples or experts reviews anything which leads to correct path....

Mono is often not the solution. Specifically, if you have lots of OS-related calls (e.g. invoking WinAPI), Mono won't help. The compatibility layer is quite thin, but offers most of the .NET capabilities in a cross-platform environment.

Some resources to check:
Visual Basic .NET support in Mono

Like everybody said I will say Mono also. But it is probably not the best language if you are willing to venture to another language. Like C/C++ or Java.
