IE6 + CSS: body background-color

Posted 19 December 2006 - 08:54 AM

Hello, all.

Recently I finished building something that has a different background color for the <body> element than white(#696969). In any browser other than IE6, this is just fine. However, for some reason under IE6, the background-color tends to jump around; you can see the effect by going to girasquid.com/parakeet and navigating between pages. Does anyone know why this might be happening, or how I could fix it?

Thanks,
Girasquid

Nor do I. I saw a white square at the lower left on the first visit, but I couldn’t reproduce it.

That's the flickering that I'm talking about. On my test machines, it's happening on every page view. I guess it must be limited to my machines or something.

Well, you could try fixing obvious problems first in an attempt to get the issue to go away; such things should be done as normal procedure though.

In other words, maybe you should fix the XHTML errors:
  • The xmlns pseudo‐attribute for the html element that declares the XHTML namespace is missing.
  • The style element isn’t allowed outside of the head element.
  • You have table row (tr) elements without at least one of the required children elements—td and th—present.
  • Image elements are required to have an alt attribute. The attribute provides a textual alternative to image‐based content should it not be possible to display that image.

Internet Explorer is also known to have issues with comments appearing before the document type declaration, so perhaps it has an issue with them appearing after the html element.

On another note, it seems kind of redundant to have multiple style elements for screen media when one would suffice. Example:
<style type="text/css" media="screen">
  @import url("styles/topnav.css");
  @import url("styles/footer.css");
  @import url("styles/global.css");
  @import url("styles/index.css");
</style>
