Does anyone find that those sites that have Google ads, are most likely to be given a better rating by Search Engines and, considering that Yahoo & Google have combined their resources to give better results, have also given preferences to those forums and web sites that display their advertisements or sponsored links?

No, search engines do not favor sites that run their ads.

I found this news site sbout the New Google to be quite informative, if anyone is interested.

I actually had this Question in the coffee lounge as I thought it would make a good discussion about favortism by Yahoo & Google rather than being a Question as to whwether Ads were favoured by Search Engines but the "powers that be" thought otherwise, twice!

The Caffeine Lounge is for off-topic discussion. If you want an off-topic discussion on people's preferences between Google vs. Yahoo, then open a thread for that. This is pretty clearly a Web Development and SEO question, and there is no reason still that there cannot be a discussion about the SEO and Web Development aspects of Yahoo and Google as search engines.

I've run Google Ads (both CPM AND CPC) and engaged in other forms of link-building and site exposure.
Google Ads is good for getting visitors, but you have to watch the bounce rate, and the new visitors rate (which you can using Google Analytics). I found that when I started running Google Ads, my rank in Google started to increase. This could have been a coincidence, but I did very little other site exposure during the time I was running Google Ads. I did notice that I had a lot more search results when I searched for my site name, as it seems the ads embedded in another sites page show up in search engines too.
I found the best method of improving organic search results was submitting to hundreds of directories. I know that Google say that directories aren't that important, but my site had Pagerank 0 for two years, and the prime keyword search results placed my site around #20-30. After submitting to directories, my Pagerank rose to 2, and prime keyword searches went to #8-10.
