Please forgive my ignorance, but how am I supposed to keep up with all these new programming languages coming out almost every year. F#, C#4, HTML5 and the list goes on and on and on...
What do you recommend is a good way to keep up with all the new languages and still have an upper hand possibility of staying within the job market use.
I fear that I might learn JAVA really well and have no use with it and vice versa.

They don't come out that fast and when you get on the main trunk of the language future updates are typically a handful of new methods and namespaces... so it's not as if you are relearning everything when jumping from .NET 3.5 to 4.0.

There are so many server and client scripting languages such as C#, PHP, Python, JAVA and HTML, so what is the proper way to stay updated with all the new versions of these languages ?
