Installing Ruby on Rails with XAMPP, Access Forbidden.

Posted 31 March 2011 - 09:10 AM

I already have XAMPP installed on my computer. I successfully installed Ruby on Rails, but when I tried to access http://localhost:3000/ It'll prompt "Access Forbidden" and "Error 403". Any solutions? I'm using Windows XP SP3.

You need to configure the Ruby Setup when installing with Xampp for windows.

Modify the httpd.conf to add the Ruby Configuration.
( example path -- c:\xampp\apache\conf\httpd.conf)

here are some tutorials i found on the internet to configure ruby on rails with xampp.

Because it is already installed on my computer. Why? Is it bad?
I just want to try Ruby on Rails to see if it's much easier to use.

It's not bad, it's just overhead for development. Ruby comes with simple webserver (WEBrick) that you can use with rails.

$ rails new demo

$ rails s

This will generate fresh app and start the webserver. It's that simple. No need for configuration.

The idea is to pick up any directory you want, generate app and serve it from there. You don't care about XAMPP installation at all.
