Hi, OK,
on my site status page www.xqu.f2s.com/status/ I have been working on this status script thingie for ages and cannot get anything good.
I want a script (PHP preferance[cgi if needed]) to show if I am online or offline, there is many ways I could go about it and most I dont have the expertiese for.
I tried the ICQ one, but I am never on ICQ because I dont like it.
I am always on MSN messenger but I am not good enought to write a script to show my online of offline status for that.
I am always on mIRC IRC chat in the dreamincode room or at least that server, that could be a possibility be very good if I could get a script for it but again I am not good enough at it.
The last way would maybe be the least prefered, but I could use something like the users online thing on the front page of this site, I could login to a page on my site and it could get info from that.
There is a few other ways that it could be done. If anybody knows any good was I could do this please tell me. Thanks in advance.

Do you want them to be able to contact you using one of these from your page or just check your status online and then go to your IRC channel/use MSN messenger if they have it?

Umm im not sure, I guess it could be an added feature, depends what can be done.
I already have a Java client for my personal room on the site.
I guess what I want is the check my status.

If you are justing wanting to have someone check your status, then you could set up a socket that connects to your computer when you are online. Of course this will work much easier if you have a cable/dsl connection or something else that gives you a static IP.

I also considered that once, but I dont have cable/dsl, Im on DUN, so a dynamic IP, thats when I gave up on the idea, also it would be slight security risk and bandwidth hog.
But I am always on IRCMSN when online.
Not one person, I want it on my website on a page.

Dynamic IP won't work then. But the same thing should be able to work with the MSN or the IRC then. Same concept. You could use a socket that connects to the IRC server and looks for your user name on that server. With the MSN, the visitor to your site would have to have MSN to be able to view your status that way. (But then again, many bulletin boards allow a person to view the online status of others)

Perhaps you can take a look at how users use PHP, Perl, other languages to check status in ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, etc. and apply that concept to MSN. I'm sure though that the socket would work with the IRC deal.(Could be wrong)

Hey, there's one included in the phpnuke module. Go look at my site http://lanmanimal.com and look at the members list. It lets you know if they're on yahoo, msn, or icq all!
